Who owns a domain name?

No one really ‘owns’ a domain name. When you purchase a domain name, you are simply purchasing the right to use it for the period of time you’ve paid for, similar to a lease.

The longer you register a domain for ensures that you will hold the right to use that particular domain name for that period of time.
