What is a domain name?

A domain name is the address you type into your web browser when you visit a website, like web3k.com.au. It’s a unique address which is also used after the ‘@’ symbol in email addresses.

Domain names consist of two parts, the name and the extension. The name can be chosen upon registration and can be almost anything - (there are some limitations, such as copyright). The extension indentifies

Some extensions are country specific, like .au for Australia and .co.nz for New Zealand. Other extensions are more generic, like .com and .net which are used where there is no specific geographic requirement.

Domain names are unique, no two are exactly the same however you register a name with different domain name extensions i.e. web3k.com.au and web3k.co.nz.
